WE THANK YOU, M. L. KING DAY VOLUNTEERS We are so appreciative of the many schools and community groups who did MLKing Day volunteer activities to benefit Aid For Friends 2000 shut-ins. We highlight just a few: 282 volunteers from Our Lady of Grace Parish and Elementary School, Penndel, PA, the Maple Point Middle School in Langhorne, PA as well as volunteers from Global Citizen Outreach of United Way, (some coming from as far away as Chester County) joined in a service project of meal preparation in Our Lady of Grace’s gymnasium. It was really a great day for everyone involved. Father Dooner, Pastor of Our Lady of Grace, generously provided lunch for all the participants. The group exceeded their goal by preparing 2399 home cooked dinners and 714 breakfast bags for Aid For Friends, and we are so thankful for their generosity. We also thank an interfaith group of 23 Christian, Jewish and Muslim teens who were featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer. They met at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Ardmore and prepared a total of 183 home cooked, nutritious dinners for Aid For Friends’ frail elderly homebound. This group learned not only about sharing with those who are less fortunate but also the message of tolerance, by working together with people of different faiths. |
