Sometimes...happiness is just having someone to talk to!

Would you consider becoming a volunteer Visitor for Aid For Friends?

  1. If you are interested, call AFF to arrange a meeting with a Social Service staff person who will explain the requirements of a volunteer visitor and you will view a short video explaining our program.  Consequently, shut-ins on our waiting list in various communities will be anonymously described and upon discussion, you would choose a shut-in with whom you feel you would be compatible.

After the initial interview session/orientation, your tasks would include:

  1. Pick up seven frozen home cooked dinners from a local Aid for Friends freezer (there are 250 freezer locations throughout Philadelphia and surrounding counties.)
  2. Deliver the dinners to your frail elderly homebound client/friend once weekly.
  3. Visit with the shut-in for approximately one hour each week, discussing various topics of interest to the shut-in, such as their early life, sports teams for those who are interested, etc. Be a listener; let the shut-in set the pace.  You may find that this conversation may not only be enjoyable to the client/friend but for yourself, as well.

When Aid For Friends provides free - tasty -  nutritious home cooked dinners to the frail elderly homebound - when we offer not only our meals but the hand of friendship to the isolated and compassion to the neglected, we are providing food and friendship to the needy homebound; little miracles love can bring.
